People constantly ask what we ‘do’ for our patients. It’s frequently difficult to describe, because essentially they are asking, What exactly does a family caregiver do? A better question is, what don’t we do. As we speak, 5 of our students are packing their overnight bags. Each of them will be spending one of the next five nights beside one of our leukemia inpatients, to allow his wife to go home & rest in her own bed. 1 special patient & family + 5 special college students = 1 special story. A new tradition is born: “Fight Watch,” as we scale to other national cancer centers this year to equip more college students to help other families fighting cancer. #itsnotacharity #itsanarmy
